Manchester United went 3 points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League with a victory against Portsmouth at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney gave United an early lead. And Michael Carrick came of the bench and got the winner late in the second half. United returned to their near best with some cracking openings but their finishing was poor otherwise United would won by a better margin. With this victory, the Champions go three points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand. This match was the 600th appearance for Paul Scholes and 799th for Ryan Giggs.
