Team Sky looks set to unleash star duo Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish on this month’s Tour de Romandie despite previously indicating the two riders wouldn’t team up until the Tour de France in the summer.
The two highest profile Team Sky riders are about to embark on a busy summer, one which includes not only the Tour de France but also the Olympic Games in London. Both riders have maintained the Tour remains the top priority despite the attraction of the Olympics, and Wiggins will be hoping to challenge Cadel Evans for this year’s title at the sport’s showpiece
Wiggins suffered a nightmare race last year, breaking his collarbone during the early stages and ruling himself out of the rest of the event with the injury. The 31-year old is back fully fit this year, though, and many have backed Wiggins to be a genuine title contender.
Cavendish will be go into the Tour as world sprint champion and defending green jersey winner, meaning he is the favourite in the cycling betting and will be looking to add to the 20 stage victories he has already collected in his stunning career so far.
Having the two Brits in the team has boosted Team Sky’s reputation, as well as given them a great chance at establishing themselves a genuine force in the sport.
