Mancini urges Blues response

Following their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in their Carling Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday night, Manchester City boss has urged his side to get back to winning ways.

The Blues have their League Cup ambitions hanging in the balance, as the find themselves a goal down against the Reds ahead of the return leg at Anfield later this month. Those following the Carling Cup betting will wonder if they can turn things around.

A first-half Steven Gerrard penalty was the difference between the two sides but Liverpool would have put the tie to bed were it not for some superb saves from City shot stopper Joe Hart.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup by arch rivals Manchester United in their previous outing, City’s chances of winning a domestic cup competition now hang by a thread, with the Eastlands outfit needing to get a result on Merseyside to reach the final at Wembley.

Either Crystal Palace or Cardiff City from the Championship will be awaiting the Blues or the Reds in this year’s final at the home of football and Mancini has called his team to get back to winning ways following two consecutive defeats. People placing a Carling Cup bet should remember this.

The Italian tactician said: "I thought we played better in the second half, we were poor in the first half. In the end we didn't deserve to lose, but we were unlucky.

"This moment is very difficult, but it is important that we stay very confident. This moment is not a good moment. We have to continue to work and continue to believe in ourselves."
